UFC 141 Brock Lesnar vs Allistair Overeem Preview/Prediction

Full disclosure, I am a Brock Lesnar fan, so this could come off somewhat biased, but I honestly believe Brock will run right through Overeem tomorrow night:

Overeem definitely is the most dangerous heavyweight striker in MMA, but if you study MMA history, anytime a Striker faces a grappler, the grappler almost ALWAYS wins. Overeem has a puncher's chance, and I never like picking anyone who has a puncher's chance.

I won't sit here and say Overeem is overrated, even though he really is. A lot of websites have him ranked the number 2 Heavyweight when he has beaten absolutely NO ONE. its ridiculous. People like to point to his K-1 title as if that is some kind of proof he will beat Brock. Problem is, there is a HUGE difference in K-1 striking and MMA striking. K-1, Overeem can concentrate completely on throwing the hardest, most devastating shots he can. In MMA, you can't just blindly launch that type off attack cause you leave yourself open to being taken down. Unfortunately, Overeem is facing one of the greatest wrestlers the heavyweight division has ever seen. So Overeem will either not throw as hard,or, will be taken down swiftly.  It is true Brock has bad standup, and is no match on on his feet with Overeem,HOWEVER, main thing people are overlooking is, Brock looked bad against Shane Carwin and Cain Velazquez, cause those guys have something Overeem does not... Which is elite wrestling/takedown defense.

Overeem does not have the skill to stop a Brock Lesnar takedown. Overeem does not have the gas tank or the prowess on the ground to get off the bottom of Lesnar. People watch some crappy video of him applying a guillotine in Dream as evidence he can grapple which is hilarious.

Only way Brock won't win this fight, is if Overeem lands some type of big punch before Brock gets inside. Once Brock gets inside.. this fight is over.

I got Brock 2nd RD TKO via GNP with Overeem gassed and on his back.

Drew Brees isn't Dan Marino

Drew Brees is a fantastic QB, don't get me wrong but people are being way too prisoner of the moment saying he is better than Dan Marino, just cause he broke Marino's record.

We have to examine the differences in Brees this year and Marino in 84.

1.Brees to this point, has thrown 60 more passes than Marino.. more attempts, more chance at yards
2.Brees has more weapons than Marino: Sproles,Graham,Colston,Meachum,Henderson > Clayton,Duper and Marino's RB Tony Nathan... Who? Exactly
3. Marino played in a much more difficult era defensively. Players could hit the QB, hit the WRs.
4.Brees plays in a spread offense whereas Marino did not. put Marino in today's NFL he'd throw for 6000 yards
5. Marino 48tds 17Int.. Brees 41tds 13ints  pretty close but still 7 more tds for Marino in a different league.
6.only two other QB's threw for at least 4000 yards when Marino broke the record. Currently, after week 17, 10 QB's should break that 4000 yard mark. Which means, Passing has been inflated and much like the HR back in the steroid era, it has become severely devalued. In today's NFL, a player would have to throw for closer to 6000 to equal Marino's feat if you factor in all the above.
7.NFL had no Free Agency. Brees and New Orleans were able to acquire an all world back like Darren Sproles.. whereas Marino had no shot at his teaming getting significantly better.

Tim Tebow/Denver Broncos and the Four Corner Offense

For those who don't know me, I have been on the Tebow bandwagon from the beginning. I think he has that certain something, that just doesn't show up on the stat sheet, that you can't tangibly measure. I risked looking like an idiot to all of my friends supporting Tebow and championing him to those who were convinced he couldn't play QB in the NFL.

That being said, Let's be honest, Denver have won, mainly through Defense, great special teams, and very very fortunate bounces. Tebow has led some impressive last possession/game winning drives, but before people start claiming he is better than Cam Newton or a plethora of other QBs, this needs to be kept in mind:

Denver, essentially play a version of High School basketball's Four Corner Offense.

For those not high school basketball aficionados, The Four Corner offense is essentially ran, to shorten games, limit possessions, a lot of times when a team is over matched. It emphasizes efficient play, and maximizes the importance of protecting the ball. Denver win, largely in part, because Tebow doesn't turn the ball over.

In the 4 corners, a team will milk the clock, pass the ball, and force a team to get overtly aggressive which allows easy layups or the team to keep the ball. So many games in high school end 16-12, 14-10 via this strategy. So, that being said, does that really make a team or a QB great? You are essentially using a gimmick strategy to stay in games long enough to have a shot at the end, and to Tebow's credit, he has not let anyone down.Still though, let's say the top rated HS team played a mediocre team and the mediocre team runs the 4 corner offense the entire game and finds themselves down 2pts with 20 secs to go and they hit a buzzer 3 to win. Were they really the better team? Put a shot clock in and that team loses by 50 but through exploiting a certain gimmick strategy, they would have found a way to win a game, they had no business being in.

People ask me all the time, how Tebow can make the defense better, when he doesn't play defense. Answer of course is, a rested defense, is a dangerous defense. There is a reason some of the best offensive teams in the league also have the worst defense. Look at Green Bay, New Orleans and New England. When you play hurry up football, and throw almost every down, even if you score quick touchdowns, your defense is gonna wear down and become exhausted which also allows other teams to go up and down the field. So you are left with shootouts and the best teams' defenses absolutely gashed and made to look terrible, when in reality, they aren't bad defenses.

I am a Tim Tebow fan, I mean how can you not like a guy of his character and moral standing? He is a true role model and someone people's kids should idolize, especially in this day and age of sports where so many get arrested or are selfish or mail in performances for the check. I won't,however, sit here and convince anyone that he is a great QB. He does win, which in the end is all that matters, but a true great QB is a QB who can win and be successful in any system. When sports guys on TV talk about how Denver should play the entire game, the way they allow Tebow to play in the 4th quarter, they aren't taking into account the entire reason Denver has been successful. They are only successful via  playing the way they are playing. You let him throw the ball every down, I guarantee Denver lose by 2 touchdowns per game like against Detroit.

Top Ten NBA Players

As the new Season is set to begin, Here are my Top 10 Players in The NBA:

1.Dirk Nowitzki: Defeated Lamarcus Aldridge,Kobe Bryant,Kevin Durant,Dwyane Wade and Lebron James. Nuff Said. Dirk won NBA title with his 2nd best player injured. No other top 25 player on his team.

2.Dwyane Wade
3.Kevin Durant
4.Kobe Bryant
5.Lebron James
6.Dwight Howard
7.Derrick Rose
8.Carmelo Anthony
9.Chris Paul
10.Deron Williams

Los Angeles Lakers are losing their minds!!!! (And the Mavs are reaping the benefits)

Attention LA Lakers:

You won 2 NBA titles in a row!!!!!!!!
You only lost last year due mainly to dead legs and loss of focus which often happens to teams that have had THAT much success. Let us not forget they lost in the NBA finals before winning the 2. So if you count all the extra games, they had a right to finally hit the wall.

So, what do you do? Take it on the chin and regroup for next season?? Or, completely overhaul your roster?

Right now, What the LA Lakers are doing is absolutely nuts. Gave away one of the most versatile players in the league to Dallas, Now talking of trading Pau Gasol AND Andrew Bynum. It makes absolutely zero sense to me. The Lakers won 2 titles and are so dominant, largely in part because of the huge mismatches and size advantage they enjoy on the court. When you can have 2 7 footers and a highly skilled 6-10 guy on the floor at the same time, it is an absolute nightmare for opposing coaches and teams.
So basically, even if they land Dwight Howard, They will have given away their entire front line to acquire him and what does that leave you with? Certainly not a Championship team in my opinion.
People give Kobe and Shaq all the credit for the dominant Laker teams of the early 21st Century, but people over look the fantastic role players that surrounded those 2 guys. What would be left to put around Kobe and Dwight? Kobe also isn't getting any younger and is definitely on the decline of his career, even though he is still a top 5 player.

Unfortunately, LA have already set some type of overhaul in motion, and the ridiculous give a way of Lamar Odom will seal LA's fate.If the LA Clippers acquire Chris Paul, Lakers may fall to number 2 in LA with the moves/decisions they are making.

Dallas Mavericks Offseason Transactions Analysis

I have been a Dallas Mavericks fan since the year 2000, and they are a team I am most passionate about. My moods can shift with how good or bad they are playing. Naturally 2010/2011 was a fantastic year as I never imagined we would Hoist the Larry O Brien Trophy. I always believe and have faith in my teams, but I have been conditioned over so many disappointing seasons, to never get my hopes up when it comes to the Mavs.

So anyway, most people can't think straight through their emotions once the season ends and decisions have to be made.  Truth is, Dallas NEVER win the NBA championship if they don't acquire Tyson Chandler. He provided the defensive presence and toughness the team never had and toughened the team into a championship contender.

That being said, Mark Cuban made the right decision not giving Chandler 56 million over 4 years. Chandler is a valuable player, but 14 million hamstrings the salary cap and I still don't trust Chandler to remain healthy or focused that long.

J.J. Barea also was instrumental in the championship run, but JJ can be boom or bust. Often he gets beat on Defense and he takes bad shots or turns the ball over at the worst possible moment. If you look what is left on the roster with Roddy Beaubois,Dominique Jones and Still with Jason Terry, I think they can more than fill in for Barea.

New Players acquired:  I have never been a Vince Carter fan, and this move still is baffling to me. I think he has no heart, poor attitude and is not a chemistry or winning player. I suppose, if he accepts his role, he could lend some offensive value to the team, not sure if he starts or comes off the bench which makes me wonder if his ego can accept that.

Lamar Odom:  Dallas just gave up a trade exception and a pick to acquire one of the most versatile players in the game. I think he will be less distracted in Dallas and play even better than he did in LA which would be scary. He is a triple double waiting to happen every night.

Potential starting lineups are  endless.
PG Kidd
SG Carter
SF Odom
PF Dirk
C Haywood

PG Kidd
SG Beaubois
SF Marion
PF Dirk
CHaywood
That would bring in 2 of the best 6th men in recent NBA history Jason Terry and Lamar Odom in off the bench.
Dallas' depth is still exceptional and loaded especially if Ian Mahinmi can continue to develop at Center. At times Dallas could also stick Dirk at Center, Odom at PF, Marion at SF, Carter at SG and would be virtually unguardable.

The goal, which is no secret, is for Dallas to acquire Dallas native Deron Williams, once he becomes a free agent after this season. So all these moves keep Dallas competitive,in contention, and potentially sets the table for the future of the franchise post Dirk Nowitzki.
